Following a collision on A5 highway: Replacement of the damaged lane needed

Get ready for some roadwork! The Autobahn GmbH has officially announced that the repair of the damaged road sections and exchange of guardrails will begin on June 30. They'll be working tirelessly to ensure minimal disruption to your commute, with most work happening during off-peak hours. Their goal is to complete the project by July 6.

To achieve this, they'll need to temporarily close certain sections around the Walldorf interchange. Here's the schedule:

  • June 30: Short-term closures between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
  • June 30: Closures between 8 p.m. and 12 a.m.
  • July 1 to 4: Closures each day between midnight and 6 a.m. and between 8 p.m. and 12 a.m.
  • July 5: Closures between midnight and 6 a.m.

The following road sections will be affected:

  • The auxiliary lane of the A5 (direction Frankfurt/Mannheim)
  • On-ramp from the A6 to the A5 (from Mannheim towards Frankfurt)
  • Main lane of the A6 at the Walldorf interchange towards Mannheim
  • From the A5 to the A6 (from Karlsruhe towards Mannheim)

For safety reasons, the speed on the parallel lane of the A5 will be reduced to 60 km/h during the repair work. Normally, speeds of 80 km/h are allowed during the day and 120 km/h at night.

Tragic Accident and Repair Announcement

Remember that unfortunate truck accident on June 27? Yep, the one involving a truck coming from Karlsruhe that overturned and caught fire around 12:30 p.m. Sadly, the driver didn't survive the accident (read the full report here).

The ensuing fire caused heavy smoke, leading to the temporary full closure of both the A5 and A6 at the Walldorf interchange. The fire severely damaged the road surface, drainage facilities, and guardrails.

In response to this incident, the Autobahn GmbH Southwest branch vowed to carry out the repair work "as soon as possible." A specific date and cost estimates are still forthcoming. Until then, a reduced maximum speed of 40 km/h is in effect on the affected stretch - normally, speeds of 80 km/h are allowed during the day and 120 km/h at night.

The repair work for the damaged road sections on the A5 and A6, resulting from a tragic accident involving a truck, is now set to commence as soon as possible by the Autobahn GmbH Southwest branch. This comes after an unfortunate incident on June 27, where a truck from Karlsruhe overturned and caught fire, causing the temporary closure of both highways at the Walldorf interchange. The cost estimates for the repair are yet to be announced. In the meantime, a speed limit of 40 km/h has been imposed on the affected stretch, significantly lower than the normal daytime and nighttime speeds of 80 km/h and 120 km/h respectively. This repair work is anticipated to take place across various sectors of the affected highways, including the automotive industry, finance, general-news, and transportation industries, given the widespread impact of the accident.
