Flight Service Disruption at Orly: Adjust Your Travel Plans Accordingly if Departing from This Airport
Commuters in Paris are advised to plan their journeys carefully this weekend due to modernization work on the metro line 14. On May 30 and 31, the entire line will be closed, with replacement buses put in place to facilitate travel.
Line 14 has been undergoing modernization since January, and this work continues. As a result, the line is closed on Wednesday evenings from 10 pm and one weekend per month. This Ascension weekend is no exception, with the line scheduled to be entirely closed this Friday and Saturday.
To ensure passengers are not left without options, the RATP has put alternative routes in place, particularly on the Gare de Lyon-Olympiades section, where replacement buses have been deployed. The line is also cut on the section leading to Orly Airport, with a bus running from Denfert-Rochereau to Orly.
Other options for getting to the southern Paris airport include RER B and Orlyval, as well as line 7 tram, which can be picked up from the line 7 metro. In June, the line will be closed every Wednesday from 10 pm and on Sundays, June 15 and 29. The same will apply every Wednesday in July. Finally, in August, the line will be closed from August 4 to 8 inclusive, all day.
These traffic interruptions have been announced in advance, and the RATP aims to increase the line's capacity to one million passengers per day, in preparation for the Grand Paris lines, scheduled to be completed by 2031. Villejuif will be connected to line 15 by the end of 2025, and Orly Airport to line 18 by 2027.
During these works, it is best to avoid using Line 14's closed sections. For alternatives, lines 1, 4, and 13, as well as RER A and B, are generally considered reliable, although passengers should still check for ongoing or scheduled works before planning their trip. Lines 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, and 10 do not have major planned full-line closures, but travelers should always verify live updates as schedules change.
Patience and flexibility are key when navigating these disruptions, with passengers advised to check real-time updates via the RATP and SNCF apps, and expect delays and longer travel times during periods with network disruptions. Replacement bus services will be in place during major closures, but expect possible crowding. Travelers are also advised to anticipate delays and plan for extra travel time during the summer modernization work.
Financial implications due to the prolonged line closure on business commuters are apparent, as they rely on public-transit, particularly line 14, for transportation to and from work. The metro industry in Paris is undergoing modernization, leading to temporary disruptions that necessitate changes in travel plans for the public.
