First Electric Vehicle SUV Model Unveiled on Honda Electric Vehicle Architecture by Acura Performance
The automotive world is abuzz with excitement as Acura, Honda's luxury brand, unveils its latest creation – the Acura Performance EV Concept. This groundbreaking electric SUV concept, showcasing Acura's vision for its all-electric vehicles of the future, is set to go into production in late 2025.
The Acura Performance EV Concept, premiered during Monterey Car Week, is a testament to Acura's commitment to innovation and design excellence. With its vented hood, prominent side vents, aggressive front fascia, and distinctive tail, this concept vehicle exudes an air of sophistication and power.
In a significant move, Acura's new model will be the first to be engineered on the new Honda-developed EV platform and produced at the Honda EV Hub in Ohio. This marks a significant step in Honda's efforts to establish itself as a major player in the electric vehicle market.
The Acura Performance EV Concept will also be the first Acura model to make its public debut at The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering, on Friday, Aug. 16, and will later be featured on the Concept Lawn at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance on Sunday, Aug. 18.
The production of this new Acura model will begin in mid-2024 in Ohio, USA. This is noteworthy as it will also be the first model produced at the Honda EV Hub, a testament to the company's investment in its North American operations.
Honda is making significant strides in the establishment of the Honda EV Hub in Ohio. The company has committed to investing at least $700 million to transform its Marysville Auto Plant, East Liberty Auto Plant, and Anna Engine Plant for the start of EV production in North America.
Moreover, Honda, in partnership with LG Energy Solution, has committed to invest $3.5 billion in the new joint venture EV battery facility, L-H Battery Company, Inc., near Jeffersonville, Ohio. The facility, scheduled to be completed by the end of 2024, will have an annual capacity of approximately 40GWh.
The Acura Performance EV Concept is the fifth Acura concept vehicle displayed at Monterey Car Week during the last 11 years, underscoring Acura's consistent commitment to innovation and design. This new premium-performance electric SUV concept previews Acura's next generation all-electric model, setting the stage for an exciting future in the world of electric vehicles.
