The burning question - was a jaw-dropping 489,869.12 euros a generous gift or a loan? Ex-couple Lilly Becker and Pierre Uebelhack found themselves at loggerheads over this very question. Their disagreement escalated to court, with the initial verdict being handed down in April.

During a February settlement hearing, Becker maintained that Uebelhack had generously bestowed the money upon her in the heat of their supposed romance. However, Uebelhack claimed it was a loan owed to him, and he pressed his case. On April 16, Uebelhack emerged victorious at the Munich Regional Court, and the ruling came down in his favor. Becker must cough up the dough. According to Bild, Uebelhack anticipates a repayment of 154,733 euros, an additional 27,961 euros representing the loan he extended to his ex, and quite a hefty sum in interest and legal fees (32,248.19 euros and 3,311.18 euros, respectively).

Yet, Lilly Becker isn't ready to back down. Rumor has it that she promptly filed an appeal against the judgment, with a deadline of May 16 to lodge the required paperwork.

A Gift, According to Lilly Becker

Uebelhack and Becker reportedly started dating in 2018, despite his denial of a committed relationship. It's said that he lent the moderator a whopping 489,869.12 euros to help her make ends meet during their alleged romance. The repayment deadline, according to Becker, was slated for August 31, 2022. However, she contended in court that the money was a heartfelt gift within their romantic relationship. Uebelhack is said to possess signed loan agreements as evidence that Becker was well aware the money was only a loan. Becker retaliated by claiming that her signature had been digitally manipulated.

Judge Robert Engelmann ruled in April that Becker didn't tell the whole truth. "The judge believes, based on the evidence, that the money which was indisputably transferred was not a gift, but a loan claim. Therefore, he assumes that it should also be repaid," explained RTL's court representative, Cornelia Kallert at the time.
