Facebook Launches $25K-$100K Grants for Local COVID-19 News Outlets

The Facebook Journalism Project (FJP) has introduced a new grant program, the COVID-19 Local News Relief Fund, to support local news organizations actively covering the COVID-19 crisis in the United States. The program, open to both for-profit and nonprofit news outlets, offers grants ranging from $25,000 to $100,000.

Applications for these grants opened on April 13, 2020, and closed on April 24, 2020. The program prioritizes news organizations in rural and disadvantaged communities, areas with acute COVID-19 outbreaks, and publishers with an established digital business model. Eligible organizations must be based in the US and have a specific regional or local focus, serving communities often overlooked by large media outlets. They should be actively reporting on the COVID-19 crisis and its impacts on their local areas.

The FJP COVID-19 Local News Relief Fund Grant Program aims to bolster local journalism during the pandemic, ensuring that communities receive vital, relevant information about the crisis from trusted local sources.
