Extension of deadline for Ajrak design number plates on two-wheelers to October 31st
New Ajrak Design Number Plates Introduced in Sindh for Two-Wheelers
The Sindh government has introduced a new Ajrak design number plate system for two-wheelers, as part of the Safe City Project. These number plates are designed with advanced security features and are essential for the success of the Safe City Project, according to Sindh's Excise and Taxation Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla.
Ajrak-Themed Design and Security Features
The new Ajrak design number plates feature an Ajrak-themed design, promoting Sindhi culture, with a white background, an official hologram, and a watermark of Mazar-e-Quaid. They also include a QR code that enables online verification, helping combat fake or duplicate plates effectively.
The plates are part of a security-featured system developed in coordination with the National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC) under the Ministry of Defence Production. The new high-resolution cameras from Safe City can recognize the plates' special security features.
Three Different Colored Plates
There are three different colored plates based on vehicle types: white for private vehicles (including bikes), yellow for commercial vehicles, and green for government vehicles.
Fee and Application Process
For two-wheelers, the fee is Rs 1,850, which covers the number plate and delivery charges if a courier service is selected. The vehicle registration tax must be clear before applying, and the process can be completed online via the Excise Department portal with step-by-step instructions for application and payment.
Deadline Extension
The initial deadline for the new Ajrak design number plates for two-wheelers was August 14, but the Sindh government has extended the deadline to October 31, 2025, due to processing delays and a surge in applications.
Importance of the New Number Plates
The new number plates aim to support traffic law enforcement and crack down on unregistered motorcycles by linking with the Safe City’s surveillance and identification systems. The Excise Department is currently facing a backlog and processing delays but maintains that the new plates are mandatory for compliance with updated traffic regulations.
The minister emphasized the necessity of the new number plates for the success of the Safe City Project. He stated that the Safe City Project could not succeed without the security-enhanced number plates issued by the government being fully implemented.
It is important to note that number plates issued by outside agents or shops will not be considered valid. Only Excise offices can issue the new Ajrak design number plates. The old number plates are not considered valid if issued by agents or shops outside the Excise offices.
In summary, the new Ajrak design number plates for two-wheelers in Sindh integrate cultural symbolism with advanced security and digital verification to modernize vehicle number plates and help enforce road safety laws. These plates are a crucial part of the Safe City Project, aiming to combat fake plates, improve vehicle tracking, and enforce traffic rules.
- The coordination with the National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC) under the Ministry of Defence Production has resulted in a security-featured system for the new Ajrak design number plates, which also includes elements of the finance sector, as the plates come with a QR code that facilitates online verification.
- With the advancement of the Safe City Project, the industry and transportation sectors intertwine as the introduction of the Ajrak-themed number plates for two-wheelers in Sindh also encourages the growth of the finance sector by allowing for online applications and payments for the plates, making them more accessible to the public.
