Enhanced Credit Card Autofill Features Roll Out in Google Chrome for a Broadened User Base in the United States
Google Streamlines Online Payments with Latest Updates
Google has announced significant enhancements to its digital wallet service, Google Pay, aiming to simplify online transactions, boost shopper rewards visibility, and make international remittances more accessible.
Enhanced Chrome Autofill and Rewards
Google Pay is now upgrading its autofill shopping experience in Chrome for users in the U.S., allowing them to see detailed rewards benefits for over 100 supported credit cards when autofilling payment information. This system helps shoppers easily identify which card provides the best rewards benefits during checkout.
Integration of Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) Options
BNPL options such as Affirm, Zip, and more are now integrated directly into Google Pay’s autofill on Chrome. This means shoppers can choose BNPL payment plans without leaving the checkout flow, enhancing checkout efficiency and reducing friction. Zip, for instance, allows users to split purchases into equal installments seamlessly through Chrome autofill.
Google plans to expand BNPL support to include Klarna, Afterpay, and other providers soon, reinforcing BNPL as a standard payment method embedded in autofill. "Pay over time options" will appear beneath credit/debit cards in the Chrome autofill menu.
Simplifying Global Remittances
Google has begun testing a simple and transparent global money transfer experience via Google Wallet online and Search. This feature lets users see live exchange rates when sending money internationally, initially from the U.S. to India, Brazil, Mexico, and the Philippines. The service collaborates with remittance providers like Ria Money Transfer, Xe, and Wise.
Stripe handles the actual processing of these international transfers during the test phase. A new "International transfers" page has been added to the Google Wallet website, but the specific details about the fees and exchange rates for international transfers are yet to be disclosed. The international transfers feature is currently in testing and will be released soon.
These updates demonstrate Google's continued push to streamline online payments, enhance shopper rewards visibility, enable flexible BNPL options directly in Chrome, and simplify global remittances with transparent rates and major remittance partners.
