Get ready to hop on board, folks! The Rhein-Pfalz district is about to up its transportation game. Starting Sunday, many locales will see improved bus connections to S-Bahn and the RNV tram network, even on weekends and late nights.
County Commissioner Clemens Körner (CDU) calls it a "mighty boost for local transport" in Rhein-Pfalz: Expect enhanced bus services from this weekend, as detailed in Tuesday's presentation.
The State Foots the Bill for 2.5 Million Euros Annually
The state of Rhineland-Palatinate shells out 2.5 million euros annually to ensure better bus connections to S-Bahn and RNV tram for most Rhein-Pfalz districts. Körner adds, "In certain municipalities, existing services will be doubled."
The Redesigned Bus Lines in Rhein-Pfalz
Highlights include lines 570 (Altrip - Ludwigshafen), 571 (Haßloch - Dannstadt - Mutterstadt - Ludwigshafen) and 572 (Speyer - Otterstadt - Waldsee - Ludwigshafen). These lines will boast increased frequency and run until 11 pm, even on weekends and holidays.
New bus lines will link Böhl, Gronau, Assenheim, Hochdorf, Rödersheim, and Gönnheim, while Schifferstadt to Dannstadt-Schauernheim will also receive a new connection. These routes provide seamless access to S-Bahn Rhein-Neckar and the RNV tram.
DB Regio Bus Mitte Rolls Out 80 New Buses
After a Europe-wide tender, DB Regio Bus Mitte (a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn) won the contract to operate the bus lines in Rhein-Pfalz, replacing Palatina from Edenkoben. The contract runs for 15 years.
DB Regio Bus Mitte plans to deploy 80 hi-tech buses across 17 lines. This fleet includes 12 electric minibuses designed for eco-friendly travel. Each bus features air conditioning, additional seats, free Wi-Fi, and USB charging ports.
The Green Buses Aren't on Time
Unfortunately, the 12 electric buses, built in China and bound for Europe by sea, arrived late. They're expected to dock in Antwerp on June 12, with Guido Verhoefen, managing director of DB Regio Bus Mitte, predicting they'll kick off operations in Rhein-Pfalz by mid-August.
Mayor's Hopes for a Passenger Boom
"This new service is fantastic," says Stefan Veth (CDU), mayor of the Verbandsgemeinde Dannstadt-Schauernheim. The future line 584 will connect Dannstadt with the Schifferstadt S-Bahn station, and Veth hopes this will encourage locals to switch to public transport.

In the wake of improved transportation within Rhein-Pfalz, multiple industries in the district might experience increased efficiency due to better connectivity. Consequently, the financial sector could potentially see growth as businesses prosper, fueled by more reliable transport links. Moreover, the rollout of 80 hi-tech buses, complete with eco-friendly electric minibuses, aligns with the global push towards sustainable finance.
