Dubai Authority Collaborates with BiOD Technology for Transforming Waste Oils into Sustainable Biodiesel Fuel

Dubai Municipality has announced a new initiative in partnership with BiOD Technology FZCO, a subsidiary of DUBAL Holding, aimed at collecting used cooking oil (UCO) and fats, oils, and grease (FOG) from households, restaurants, and commercial kitchens across the emirate and converting them into B100 biodiesel. This project is part of Dubai’s goal to promote a circular economy and advance environmental sustainability under Dubai Vision 2030.

Key Features of the Initiative

The city-wide collection and management of waste cooking oils is a crucial aspect of this initiative, aimed at preventing environmental harm and sewer blockages. The collected waste oils will be processed into B100 biodiesel, a cleaner-burning alternative to fossil diesel that significantly reduces carbon emissions, supporting Dubai’s green energy transition.

The partnership was formalized by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Dubai Municipality and BiOD Technology, with high-level officials involved to oversee and support the project’s implementation. The project also aims to lower wastewater treatment costs and protect vital sewage infrastructure from grease-related damage.

Alignment with Dubai's Vision 2030

This initiative is a core component of Dubai’s circular economy ambitions, turning waste into valuable energy resources and contributing directly to the environmental sustainability objectives of Vision 2030. Adel Al Marzooqi, CEO of Dubai Municipality’s Waste and Sewerage Agency, described the partnership as a "significant step" toward turning waste into valuable energy resources.

The produced biodiesel by BiOD Technology, a clean and renewable energy source, continues to be a significant part of Dubai's clean energy transition. BiOD Technology's commitment focuses on practical and impactful sustainability measures, aligning with Dubai's transition to clean energy and green innovation.

Supporting Dubai's Transition to Clean Energy

The signing was attended by senior officials including Fahad Al-Awadhi, Yousef Bastaki, and Shiva Vig.
