Li Auto's Sales Shift: L-Series Decline, Li Mega Growth

In 2021, Li Auto's L-series models, including the Li L6, L7, L8, and L9, were the company's primary and strong-selling product line. However, by 2025, the sales landscape has shifted significantly.

The Li Mega, Li Auto's most expensive model and an all-electric MPV, has emerged as a key player in Li Auto's sales strategy. In 2025, the Li Mega saw substantial growth, while the L-series experienced a sharp decline.

In July 2025, the Li Mega delivered 2,816 units, marking the second-highest monthly delivery volume in its history and accounting for 9.16 percent of Li Auto's monthly deliveries. This represents a year-on-year increase of 330.58 percent and a month-on-month increase of 22.22 percent.

On the other hand, the L-series models struggled. The Li L9, for instance, delivered 3,039 units in July, down 40.59 percent year-on-year and accounting for 12.24 percent of Li Auto's monthly deliveries. The Li L6, Li Auto's best-selling model, delivered 14,830 vehicles in July, but this was a year-on-year decrease of 40.34 percent and a month-on-month decrease of 9.96 percent.

The Li L7 and Li L8 also saw a decline in sales. The Li L7 delivered 6,237 vehicles in July, down 45.30 percent year-on-year and down 24.61 percent from June. The Li L8 delivered 3,088 units in July, down 53.16 percent year-on-year and down 28.82 percent month-on-month.

It's worth noting that the Li L6 is Li Auto's most affordable model, with a starting price of RMB 249,800 ($34,790). In the first seven months of the year, the Li L6 delivered 111,184 vehicles, accounting for 47.38 percent of Li Auto's total deliveries of 234,669 during the same period.

The updated Li Mega and L series were launched in April and May respectively. Deliveries of the updated Li Mega began on May 23, and deliveries of the updated L series began on May 9. Li Auto also launched the Li i8, its first pure electric SUV, on July 29, with deliveries set to begin on August 20.

Despite the decline in L-series sales, Li Auto's overall deliveries in July 2025 were 30,731 vehicles, a year-on-year decrease of 39.74 percent and a month-on-month decrease of 15.29 percent.

In the first seven months of the year, the Li L6 accounted for 48.26 percent of Li Auto's deliveries, the Li L7 accounted for 20.30 percent, and the Li L9 accounted for 12.95 percent. The Li Mega, while not a significant contributor in 2021, accounted for 3.67 percent of Li Auto's deliveries in the first seven months of 2025.

The decline in L-series sales can be attributed to increased market and competitive pressures after 2021, which led to a plateau and then a decline in sales due to competitors eroding Li Auto’s advantage in extended-range hybrids.

In conclusion, while the L-series was Li Auto's primary and strong-selling product line in 2021, by 2025, the sales performance balance has shifted, with the Li Mega showing significant growth. The Li Mega, which had little or no market share in 2021, has emerged as a key player in Li Auto's sales strategy.
