Delay in Implementation of High-speed Rail Project Extended by 7 Months
High-speed Rail Extension: 🚀🇹🇭 🇨🇳 Project Update
The Board of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has given the green light to a 201-day extension for the Thai-Chinese high-speed rail project, stretching from Saraburi to Kaeng Khoi. This decision comes down to some structural issues, specifically the procurement of land-use permissions from the Royal Irrigation Department.
SRT's governor, Veeris Ammarapala, announced this extension of the contract period for the high-speed rail link connecting Bangkok and Nong Khai, a joint venture between the Thai and Chinese governments. This extension applies solely to the construction of the Saraburi-Kaeng Khoi stretch, now rescheduled to finish by December 25, 2025.
The updated plan aligns with the extended contract period, and there will be no additional expenses or compensation claims for the time extension from the contractors. Mr. Veeris confirmed that the delay is due to structural obstacles, including the necessity for land-use permissions from the Royal Irrigation Department.
Excitingly, he also confirmed that the SRT has delivered 100% of the required land to the contractor and is taking measures to expedite the work to meet the new deadline. The Saraburi-Kaeng Khoi section, valued at 8.56 billion baht and measuring 12.99 kilometres, started construction on Feb 19, 2021.
On another front, the SRT board has decided to propose the construction of six railway crossing bridges in the Nakhon Ratchasima province, with a total budget of 797.29 million baht, to the cabinet. 🔝
