Customs officers at Weil am Rhein highway border crossing made an unusual discovery on 25.09.2025. A Belgian traveler, aged 43, failed to declare a luxury Rolex watch, valued at around 7,125 euros. The watch, a men's wristwatch, was found in a bag on the back seat of the traveler's car. Upon discovery, a tax evasion case was opened against the traveler, who refused to provide further details about the watch. The watch, originating from the renowned Swiss watch brand Rolex, was estimated to be worth approximately 7,125 euros. Import duties totaling 1,350 euros were levied on the watch. After paying these duties, the traveler was allowed to continue his journey. However, a security deposit of 1,350 euros was retained for the expected fine.
