Customs Inspections in Augsburg: 15 Salons Under Minimum Wage Probe

The Main Customs Office Augsburg recently conducted inspections in local hair salons, beauty studios, and barbershops. Over 75 establishments were visited, with around 160 employees checked. The inspections aimed to ensure compliance with social security obligations and the minimum wage.

The inspections, carried out by over 60 officers from the Financial Control Schwarzarbeit (FKS) department, found that further investigation is required in over 25 cases. Of these, 15 are suspected of not paying the minimum wage. Additionally, two administrative penalty proceedings were initiated for the illegal employment of foreigners.

The customs administration regularly conducts focus inspections to maintain a high number of checks in specific sectors. This helps reduce the social acceptance of black work and illegal employment. In April 2025, these inspections were conducted in collaboration with the local health department and the trade supervisory authority.

The Career Information Day for those interested in the profession of customs officer will be held on July 19, 2025, in Augsburg. The recent inspections highlight the importance of maintaining fair employment practices and compliance with social security obligations.
