The city of Halle and Halle Transport Authority (HAVAG) are embarking on a new Stadtbahn project in Halle-Neustadt, aiming to modernize and improve the urban tram and light rail infrastructure. The project, part of the second phase of the Stadtbahn program, will focus on enhancing public transit efficiency and connectivity in the region.

From Monday, June 30, 2025, construction will commence on a turnaround track at the Schwimmhalle stop. This measure is designed to enable trams to turn around efficiently at key stops, facilitating flexible routing and service frequency improvements. During the construction period, buses will not stop at the Schwimmhalle stop but at the roadside, and trams will only run to the S-Bahnhof Neustadt stop.

For commuters, a replacement bus service will be in operation between Soltauer Straße, Göttinger Bogen, and S-Bahnhof Neustadt from Monday, July 21, 2025. The project involves constructing a 60-meter long parking track where a tram can be parked and turned without disrupting regular traffic.

City officials have announced that by Monday, August 11, 2025, trams, buses, and cars will be able to travel through Neustadt without disruption. Some final work will continue until the end of August.

The construction will also require adjustments to the existing traffic light system at the An der Magistrale/Nietlebener Straße intersection to minimize any impact of turnaround trips on traffic flow.

The Stadtbahn Halle project, being built by HAVAG, a company of the Stadtwerke Halle group, is set to upgrade the network for a better passenger experience, operational reliability, and integration within Halle’s expanding transit environment. This includes infrastructure investments such as new tracks, stops, and operational facilities to support increased demand and sustainable urban mobility.
