Construction of Metro Tunnel from Vysotnaya Yet to Begin in Krasnoyarsk

In Krasnoyarsk, the auction for constructing the left tunnel segment of the metro, from the station "Vysotnaya" to the station "Ul. Kopylova," did not take place. The expensive procurement failed to attract any bidders.

Construction of Metro Tunnel from Vysotnaya Yet to Begin in Krasnoyarsk

In Krasnoyarsk, the auction for building the left tunneling section of the metro—from the "Vysotnaya" station to the "Ul. Kopyлова" station—didn't go as planned. The expensive bid didn't entice a single contractor, leading to a repeat of the bidding process.

Initial information on this bid appeared on the government procurement portal on April 8, which seemed like an identical set of bids that were first announced on February 4. The construction of the tunneling section in the documents was slated to begin as early as May 5.

"Mosproekt-3," the project's general contractor, is on the hunt for a company to handle the construction of one of the metro's main segments—the left tunneling section from the future ending station "Ul. Vysotnaya" to the second stop station "Ul. Kopyлова."

The proposed plan only needs one tunnel, as a parallel right-hand branch will utilize an existing Soviet-era metro tunnel built in the 1990s.

The planned construction of the tunnel involves construction and mounting work using a tunnel-boring machine with a tunnel-boring shield.

The tunnel, roughly 2650 meters long, will be dug beneath ul. Godenko and Kopylova, parallel to an earlier tunnel with variable height differences ranging from 10 to 49 meters.

The project will reach the "Ul. Kopylova" station, which will roughly be in the same location as in the old Soviet metro design, with exits in the residential area around ul. Kirneskogo.

One unique characteristic of the Krasnoyarsk metro is the merging of old and new tunnels in a single project, which sets it apart from other metro systems.

The estimated cost for the left tunnel section was 4.37 billion rubles in February, but no bids were submitted. Due to the lack of interest, the bid was reopened.

The planned completion date for the construction remains unchanged—June 2026.

Interestingly, unsuccessful auctions similar to this one also happened in Chelyabinsk, where "Mosproekt-3" is currently working on the construction of the metrotram.

In Chelyabinsk, a bid for the construction of a left tunnel section of the metrotram from the "Ul. Kosareva" station failed due to the lack of bids, forcing authorities to reopen another similar bid.

Our news outlet reached out to "Mosproekt-3" to learn the reasons for the "unpopularity" of these auctions and to check if the stalled bid for the Kopylova project might affect the overall timeline of the metro construction in Krasnoyarsk.

We also asked contractor "BTS-Most," which has relevant experience, expertise, and is working on other metrotram projects in Krasnoyarsk, why it didn't participate in the tunnel bid. We will provide updates once we receive responses.

On the positive side, construction on the new transport system is moving full steam ahead across the city. TPMK "Bamtonnelesstroy," which has already reached a significant milestone of one km since its takeoff in the city center, is expected to reach a significant mark soon. The foundations for the stations are already prepared or under construction on five out of six stations.

  3. In the main industry of finance, the auction for the left tunnel section of the Krasnoyarsk metro and the metrotram in Chelyabinsk have proven unpopular, leading to repeated bidding processes.
