New Pedestrian and Cycling Bridge Connects Koblenz Districts

Construction on a new pedestrian and cycling bridge connecting the Rauental and Goldgrube districts in Koblenz has officially begun1. This bridge is set to enhance non-motorized connectivity between the two neighborhoods, offering citizens more flexibility whether they are traveling on foot, by bicycle, or by public transport.

The bridge will serve as a crossing between the future platforms 1 and 2 and will also function as a district connection for cycling and pedestrian traffic. The federal government is providing around 3.2 million euros from the "Climate Protection through Cycling" funding program for the cycling-related part of the construction costs and accompanying measures1. Additionally, the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure is providing around 1.4 million euros for the district-connecting function. The Ministry of Transport of Rhineland-Palatinate is contributing an estimated 2.3 million euros for the public transport component1.

The city of Koblenz is footing the majority of the estimated 20 million euro cost for the bridge project1. The predicted additional passenger traffic will make the new train station one of the relatively large train stations in Rhineland-Palatinate, with around 3,300 people per day expected to switch from cars to trains1.

The bridge construction is part of a larger focus on strengthening cycling and pedestrian traffic in the state government's transport policy. The future-oriented train stop at the clinics and the administration center will be made possible by the bridge, providing easier access to these key locations.

For more information about the project, please visit the project website at www.koblenz-baut.de/raugold. The benefit-cost analysis for the future train station indicates an economic benefit that is 33 times greater than the project's costs1. The bridge is set to complement the train station "Koblenz-Administration Center," which is currently being planned.
