Congestion on Moor Road Due to Heavy Truck Transit
In the heart of Schneverdingen, a long-standing issue regarding the pedestrian and cycle gear path on Heberer Street is set to be addressed. The city has announced plans to renovate the path between Heidkampsweg and Max-Oertz Street.
The current zebra crossing on Heberer Street near Moorweg was removed a few months ago, and a demand traffic light was installed 100 meters away. However, the future of the path remains uncertain, with a long-term consideration being a pedestrian path as a replacement.
The budget for the planning and construction of this project has seen an increase, with the estimate now standing at 240,000 euros. A 60 percent subsidy may be possible, which could potentially reduce the financial burden.
The responsibility for the path, which was previously jointly built and funded, is unclear. The city is pushing for an expansion of the pedestrian and cycle gear path, but there is no agreement with the Lower Saxony State Authority for Road Construction and Traffic regarding who is responsible for the road construction on the section between Moorweg and Max-Oertz Street.
The area around Moorweg to Heberer Street has long been a problem for the city, with concerns raised five years ago about increased heavy traffic in a residential area due to the expansion of the Südring industrial area.
Mayor Meike Moog-Steffens promised relief via the Heidkampsweg, but another resident criticizes that this never happened. The city has purchased an additional area for the renewal of the pedestrian and cycle gear path on Heberer Street, but the future of the cycle path remains uncertain.
The aim of the renovation is to improve visibility for both car and bicycle drivers when turning. However, sight triangles are not being maintained, and the incline of Moorweg limits visibility. A sight barrier fence has been erected, making it difficult to assess the road layout when turning.
The city's civil engineering or public works department is likely responsible for the planning and execution of the reconstruction of the pedestrian and bicycle path. For precise contact, one should consult the Schneverdingen city administration directly.
Truck drivers may prefer Moorweg as a route out of Schneverdingen towards the federal road and the A7. The cycle path will be moved onto the road due to the renovation, which could potentially cause issues for both cyclists and truck drivers.
The city is hopeful that the renovation will bring relief and improved safety to the area. However, the unclear responsibility for the road construction remains a significant hurdle in the project's progress.
