City of Vigo Ordered to Pay €1.9 Million over Guns N' Roses Concert Financial Dispute
Breaking News: Vigo Court Orders City Council to Pay 1.9M for Guns N' Roses Concert
Hey there, folks! It's just another day in the news, and today we've got an interesting story from Vigo.
The Administrative Litigation Court No. 2 in Vigo has handed down a decision that the City Council must pay 1.9 million euros to the concert promoters, Sweet Nocturna and Live Nation, for the highly anticipated Guns N' Roses concert, slated for June 12, 2023.
According to the judgment, released on Thursday, the City Council's actions were deemed "discordant and contradictory," falling short of the "most elementary requirements of legal security and the principle of equality," as well as contradicting the principle of good administration.
Initially, the Vigo City Council had rejected the payment to Sweet Nocturna and Live Nation for the concert, which was put up for public tender, as it did not accept the only bid received, made by the plaintiff producers due to a missing document.
However, the promoters argued that they had reached an agreement with the City Council, following negotiations between Mayor Abel Caballero and the festival's counselor, Pablo Estevez. In these negotiations, the City Council had committed to paying 1.9 million for the concert, even before putting it out for tender, as documented in an interest letter sent by Estevez to the promoters, also indicating his intention to cede the Balaidos stadium for the concert's celebration.
In response, the Vigo City Council has stated that it intends to appeal this ruling to the Higher Court of Justice of Galicia, as the Court's decision "does not reflect the reality of a public administrative contract for sponsorship advertising" that "did not fulfill the advertising obligations and contains manifest errors."

Oh, by the way, if you're curious, Galicia, Navarra, and La Rioja are leading the way in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the IBEX is experiencing a drop, and the government just published orders with IRPF reductions for 800,000 producers. Interesting times, ain't they?
