CIPD designates Professor Christopher Bones as the new Chair of its Board of Trustees
New CIPD Chair Focuses on AI and Future of Work
The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) has appointed Professor Christopher Bones as its new Chair of the Board of Trustees. Bones, a former Dean of Henley Business School and an entrepreneur who co-founded a digital company, takes over from Valerie Hughes D'Aeth, who has held the role since 2021.
Bones's leadership aims to position people professionals at the heart of business strategy while ensuring they are equipped to navigate technological changes responsibly. His key goals include building the confidence and capabilities of HR professionals to work strategically within businesses and to support workforce needs effectively.
In a statement, Chloe Smith, CIPD President, expressed her gratitude for Valerie Hughes D'Aeth's leadership and commitment as Chair. "Valerie's contribution as a Companion and leader within the CIPD and the profession has been invaluable," Smith said. "Her leadership has led to the growth of the organization's membership to over 160,000 members internationally."
Hughes D'Aeth will step down from her role to spend more time with her family. However, she remains passionate about the profession and will continue to be a part of the CIPD community.
As Chair, Bones will lead the CIPD's Board of Trustees in overseeing the strategic direction of the CIPD. He will work alongside the CEO Peter Cheese and his team, as well as the CIPD President Chloe Smith.
