Business Association Calls Amir Hamzah Over Stock Sale Allegations, MAHB's Management Implication at Stake
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) hearings focusing on the management of Malaysia's domestic airports, including the privatization and sale of shares of Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB), have been ongoing since the second week of February.
The hearings, led by PAC Chairman Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, have seen the testimonies of several key individuals and officials. Among them are Finance Minister II, Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, who was called to testify specifically on the sale of shares and privatization of MAHB, and Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin, the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MAHB.
Other witnesses and relevant officials include Lee Jim Leng, CEO of Hong Leong Investment Bank Berhad (HLIB); Datuk Nik Amlizan Mahamed, CEO of Retirement Fund Incorporated (KWAP); Datuk Abdul Rahman Ahmad, Group President and CEO of Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB); Datuk Fad’l Mohamed, CEO of Bursa Malaysia; and Datuk Zain Azhari Mazlan, Executive Director of the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC), representing SC chairman Datuk Mohammad Faiz Azmi.
Key government and related institutions, such as the Ministry of Finance, Khazanah Nasional Berhad, and the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), have also had their representatives or top officials provide testimony as part of the ongoing PAC investigation.
This week, six hearings took place, involving Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin, Lee Jim Leng, Nik Amlizan Mahamed, Abdul Rahman Ahmad, Fad'l Mohamed, Zain Azhari Mazlan, and the representative of the chairman, Mohammad Faiz Azmi.
As the hearings continue, it is expected that the process will take a significant amount of time due to the number of parties being called. It is also possible that Minister of Transport Loke Siew Fook and other important individuals may be called in the future.
The hearings are closed to the public, but updates on the proceedings are expected to be made public after the testimonies of all concerned parties have been heard, according to Mas Ermieyati. The statement will be presented after the testimonies, and the hearings will continue after that.
The PAC has conducted a total of 14 hearings regarding the management of domestic airports, with the aim of ensuring transparency and accountability in the privatization process. The hearings are a crucial step in maintaining the integrity of Malaysia's public institutions and protecting the interests of the Malaysian people.
