Kazakhstan-Russian Border: Long Queries Persist at Zhaysan Checkpoint
More than a hundred truck drivers have voiced their concerns over prolonged wait times at the Zhaysan checkpoint, situated on the Kazakhstan-Russian border, according to Liter.kz, quoting Diapazon. The issue arises despite the implementation of the CarGoRuqsat electronic queue system, mandating heavy vehicles to pay for passage and register in advance since May 19.
In practice, commercial vehicles are forced to stand in the same queue as private cars. The situation has been exacerbated by ongoing road repairs near the checkpoint and the inadequacy of necessary infrastructure, including a designated parking area for trucks equipped with information boards to regulate traffic flow. Drivers express their frustration at having paid for the queue without a reduction in their waiting times, often caught in multi-kilometer traffic jams.
"A truck queue has once again formed at the Zhaysan border," a long-distance trucker stated. "Regardless of preregistration and payment, everyone continues to stand in a general queue for three kilometers. It's always the same; nothing ever changes."
The National Chamber of Entrepreneurs, "Atameken," confirmed that all relevant parties are currently addressing the issue and aiming to enhance border services.
While the reasons behind the persisting queues are multifaceted, potential contributing factors include technical issues, insufficient system capacity, inadequate user familiarity, administrative delays, supply chain disruptions, and coordination issues. To address these challenges, improving communication among stakeholders, conducting regular system audits, increasing user training, and potentially expanding the system's capacity and that of the border checkpoints may help streamline operations and reduce wait times.
