Boosting Malaysia as a Prime Agro Center via World Agri Trade Promotion
The ASEAN Agro Trade Business Review Directory 2011/2012, an exclusive print platform for ministries, departments, chambers of commerce, agriculture associations, universities, and research centres, was launched at the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism 2010 Exhibition in November. The directory, promoted by World Agri Trade (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, aims to serve as a vital resource for relevant companies in ASEAN, facilitating business networking, partnerships, and knowledge sharing towards sustainable agriculture.
The directory will include profiles of 100 top agriculture companies in each ASEAN country, categorised into six sectors: agriculture, horticulture, aquaculture, livestock, plantation, commodities, machinery, and equipment. This comprehensive listing is expected to enhance market access and trade opportunities within the ASEAN Economic Community framework, promoting economic integration, free trade, and cooperation in agro-based sectors.
Datuk Seri Isahak Yeop Mohd Shar, Maha 2010 Chairman, stated that the initiative aims to establish the sharing of knowledge, skills, technology, expertise, and endeavour towards sustainable agriculture. The directory is set to showcase sustainable agricultural products, technologies, and best practices to support the region’s agricultural development.
World Agri Trade (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, through such directories and related trade platforms, supports sustainable agriculture by promoting value-added agro-products and encouraging investments in environmentally friendly agricultural practices. The company also serves as a bridge to disseminate information about sustainable supply chains, certifications, and agro-processing innovations, which are critical to balancing economic growth with environmental responsibility in ASEAN farming communities.
The launch of the ASEAN Agro Trade Business Review Directory 2011/2012 is part of World Agri Trade Malaysia’s efforts to promote Malaysia as the agricultural hub of ASEAN countries. Datuk Seri Isahak Yeop Mohd Shar also expects all 10 ASEAN members and East Asia Summit members to support the directory. The pre-launch of the directory was conducted by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Datuk Rohani Abdul Karim.
The directory is expected to act as a tool for sharing knowledge, skills, technology, expertise, and endeavour towards sustainable agriculture. It will aim to increase competition and quality of production through brand-building awareness. Overall, the directory acts as a vital resource to connect stakeholders in the agro-trade sector and supports ASEAN’s commitment to sustainable agricultural development and regional economic integration.
