BMW M135 xDrive: The Only Sporty 1 Series on the Block

The BMW M135 xDrive has taken the reins as the sole sporty offering in the second-generation BMW 1 Series lineup, following the retirement of the rear-wheel-drive layout, six-speed manual, and B58 engine models in 2019.

For those seeking a thrilling driving experience, the M135 variant comes with a host of performance-enhancing features. Standard sports tires ensure exceptional grip, while M Compound brakes with glossy grey calipers provide superior stopping power. The vehicle is equipped with 19-inch forged wheels exclusive to the M Performance model, and buyers have the option to upgrade to track-focused rubber such as the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2.

Under the hood, the M135 variant boasts a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that delivers 286 hp at the wheels. The vehicle's lighter aluminum anti-roll bars contribute to extra rigidity, resulting in a more responsive and agile driving experience.

The M135 variant is available in a striking Fire Red Metallic colour, and photos of the vehicle can be found on BMW UK's official website.

While the M135 variant is currently the only sporty 1 Series model, BMW's corporate management has yet to announce any plans to revive the front-wheel-drive 128ti. The Volkswagen Golf GTI is mentioned as a potential competitor, but no direct comparison is made.

In terms of braking, the M135 variant boasts 385-mm front discs and four-piston calipers, providing superior stopping power. The rear discs measure 330-mm, and the vehicle's revised front shock absorbers feature stronger piston rods.

However, fans of the classic rear-wheel-drive layout, six-speed manual, and B58 engine will be disappointed to hear that these features are not available in the M135 variant or any future models.

The "F70" BMW 1 Series has only been around for about a year, so it will be interesting to see how the M135 variant evolves and competes in the market. For now, the M135 variant offers a unique blend of performance, style, and driving dynamics that sets it apart from other models in the 1 Series lineup.
