BLM and US Forest Service Protect Over 900M Acres of Public Lands
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the U.S. Forest Service, two key agencies managing America's public lands, oversee vast expanses of territory. Both agencies care for around 245 million acres of land, primarily in the western states including Alaska, ensuring these areas remain healthy and accessible for generations to come.
The BLM, acting on behalf of the American people, manages this significant area. It focuses on maintaining the diversity and productivity of these lands for current and future use and enjoyment. Meanwhile, the U.S. Forest Service, apart from managing the surface land, also administers about 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate across the nation. This additional responsibility involves overseeing the responsible use of these resources for the benefit of all Americans.
Both agencies play a crucial role in preserving and protecting America's public lands. Their combined management of over 900 million acres ensures the sustainable use and enjoyment of these areas for present and future generations.
