Bicycle manufacturing company, Corratec, to produce bicycles for woom in Romania
In a move set to revolutionise European bicycle production and supply chain management, Corratec, a renowned German bicycle manufacturer, and woom, an Austrian brand specialising in children's and teenagers' bikes, have announced a strategic partnership. From Q1 2026, Corratec's factory in Timișoara, Romania, will manufacture woom bikes for the European market, bolstering woom's nearshoring strategy and aiming to reduce transport distances, shorten delivery times, and increase supply chain agility.
The Timișoara facility, spanning over 50,000 square meters and employing 120 people, will become a critical hub for woom’s production network. With an annual capacity of 350,000 bicycles, this expansion will help woom reduce reliance on distant manufacturing and better serve its core European markets.
The partnership promises numerous key benefits. Increased European production capacity, enhanced quality and engineering synergies, and supply chain optimization are some of the significant advantages. The strategic European hub, combining quality manufacturing, operational agility, and geographic proximity to woom’s headquarters in Vienna and major Central and Western European markets, will facilitate better coordination and market adaptation.
Corratec's selection as a partner was based on industrial performance, workforce quality, and geographical proximity to woom's key markets in Central and Western Europe. Konrad Irlbacher, owner of Corratec, hailed this partnership as a strategic change, building a European production hub.
The Corratec factory in Romania, which began operations in November 2022, is not part of the European production hub aiming for quality, agility, and sustainability. However, it is worth noting that the factory ended 2024 with a turnover of RON 14.4 million, despite recording losses of RON 11 million.
This collaboration is part of woom's broader nearshoring strategy, aimed at optimising the supply chain and reducing delivery times. The partnership not only strengthens woom's supply chain resilience and production flexibility but also fortifies European bicycle manufacturing infrastructure with a focus on sustainability and quality, contributing to long-term growth prospects for both companies in the competitive European market.
