Berlin's Accessibility Push: 29 Bus Stops on Rigaer Straße Get Barrier-Free Makeover

Berlin's city authorities are making public transport more accessible. They've started renovating 29 bus stops on Rigaer Straße, with 15 already completed this year. The project aims to help visually impaired individuals navigate the city more easily.

The renovation includes installing tactile paving at each stop, assisting visually impaired individuals in navigating the area safely. New curbs are also being installed to facilitate boarding the bus.

Work has begun this week at two bus stops on the Parkside of Rigaer Straße in the Ostseeviertel. The entire area is being raised by approximately 20 meters to make the stops barrier-free. The renovation is expected to be completed by September 5th.

The bus stops near the Montessori School are among those being rebuilt for barrier-free access. The city authorities managing public transport infrastructure are responsible for this barrier-free renovation. They plan to complete 20 stops by the end of 2023. The street will be closed alternately during the renovation work.

The renovation of the Rigaer Straße stops marks the completion of this phase of the overall project. The barrier-free expansion will continue in 2026 with additional stops throughout the city, making public transport more accessible for all.
