BAT Rothmans Transforms Seoul with 50 Community Gardens in 'Ggot BAT' Campaign
BAT Rothmans, a Korean subsidiary of a major tobacco and cigarette company, has completed a significant environmental project. The 'Ggot BAT' campaign, launched in 2023, has resulted in 50 botanical gardens across Seoul, transforming sites prone to littering and encouraging behavioral change.
The campaign began in June 2023 with the first garden planted near BAT Rothmans' headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul. Since then, it has grown to include 50 gardens, each one home to 3,000 trees and 17 species of flowers and trees, such as arborvitae and azaleas. This project has been a collaborative effort, involving BAT Rothmans employees, volunteers from environmental groups, and local residents.
The 'Ggot BAT' campaign has not only created greener spaces but also led to reduced waste and revitalized neighborhoods. Residents and shop owners have taken responsibility for maintaining these gardens, ensuring their longevity and success. The campaign's use of the 'nudge' theory has encouraged behavioral change, transforming areas once known for littering into thriving community spaces.
BAT Rothmans has demonstrated its commitment to the environment through the 'Ggot BAT' campaign. With 50 gardens and 3,000 trees now thriving across Seoul, the company plans to continue working with communities to maintain and expand these cleaner, greener spaces. The success of the campaign highlights the potential for corporate social responsibility initiatives to drive positive change.
