Barcelona's Prominent Player Dani Olmo's Agent Discusses Potential Free Departure
The representative of FC Barcelona star Dani Olmo conversed about a potential free departure from the team with industry insider Fabrizio Romano through Give Me Sport.
Olmo was only authorized to compete until December 31 following his $60 million return to his childhood club from RB Leizpig in the summer.
As that date approached, a judge refused to grant him further authorization, and La Liga also declined to do so before erasing the Euro 2024 champion from Barca's squad on their official website.
While Barca attempts to resolve the issue, Olmo is technically eligible to leave for free and has been linked to Manchester United and Manchester City in England.
Talking to Romano, however, Olmo's representative Andy Bara disclosed that the Olmo camp is "not engaging in negotiations with any club."
"Dani is a Barcelona player and he wants to be a Barcelona player. He has made significant sacrifices in his life to be at Barcelona. It was his long-term ambition.
"Barcelona is the only and last option! Dani, his father, family, and I are not considering other options," Bara reiterated.
Bara mentioned that emotions also play a role when it was suggested that many players would seek a way out of the club, particularly given that Olmo is obligated to be paid by Barca until 2030 and can secure another signing bonus and lucrative wages elsewhere.
"We have never made a career decision based on money. Dani plays football because he loves the game, and he made a tremendous effort to be at Barcelona.
"I'm pleased to have Dani at Barcelona, he's one of the world's best players at one of the world's biggest clubs," Bara stated.
Regarding President Joan Laporta, who a group of Barca fans has formally requested to resign, Bara expressed respect for the Blaugrana leader and Sporting Director Deco.
"They put in a lot of effort to bring Dani in last summer. We support their project, which is a significant one for the future, one of the best in the world over the next few years. We believe that Barcelona will win all the titles in the future, as they did during the [Lionel] Messi era. The player, the family, and I all wanted Dani to be at Barcelona," Bara explained.
"To be honest, I feel calm," Bara asserted, in response to inquiries about links to the mentioned Manchester giants.
"It may seem odd, but I believe in President Laporta, Deco, and I believe they will find a solution for Dani. It's a massive club," Bara added.
Though time is running out, Bara said, "I believe that Barcelona will wrap things up and make it happen."
"La Liga should assist them, rather than reporting that Dani is not available for the national team, but I'm sure he will be at Barca for many years. He's content at the club, and Dani has a desire to be there," Bara concluded.
As things stand, Olmo cannot participate in Saturday's Copa del Rey encounter against Barbastro for Hansi Flick or a Spanish Super Cup semifinal match with Athletic Club a few days later.
