Auto manufacturer MG unveils new vehicle models and shift towards prioritizing hybrid vehicles for their product lineup.

Auto manufacturer MG revealed fresh model designs and outlined a strategic shift towards prioritizing hybrid vehicles.

In an exciting new era for MG Motor, the company is positioning itself as the 'go to brand' for advanced hybrid powertrains. MG Motor Australia and New Zealand Chief Executive Officer, Peter Ciao, announced this shift in focus, aiming to exceed specific needs and requirements.

Leading the charge is the MG HS Super Hybrid, a plug-in hybrid vehicle with a large battery and electric-only range of up to 120km, according to MG. This impressive electric range, combined with a combined fuel consumption figure of 0.7l/100km, results in a combined range of close to 1000km.

The HS Super Hybrid will join the HS Hybrid + in MG's local range and will be available in Excite and Essence trim levels. A test vehicle of the HS Super Hybrid was driven from Sydney to Melbourne on one tank and one charge, covering a distance of 880km with more than 100km of available range remaining, demonstrating its impressive capabilities.

CO2 emissions for the HS Super Hybrid are claimed to be an impressive 17g/km. The vehicle's battery capacity is 24.7kWh.

MG Motor New Zealand has also announced a shift in focus to a 'hybrid first' strategy. This decision is attributed to Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (HEIDELBERG), through its subsidiary Gallus, which announced new hybrid and digital solutions at Labelexpo Europe 2025.

The MG ZS EV-replacing MGS5 EV will use the same underpinnings as the MG4. The MGS5 EV will be available in two spec levels (Excite and Essence) with two different battery sizes (49kWh and 62kWh). The 62kW models of the MGS5 EV will land at $50,990 for the Excite and $54,990 for the Essence, while the 49kW Excite and Essence models will start at $44,990 and $48,990 respectively.

MG is 'realigning' pricing across a number of existing hybrid, EV, and petrol models. The HS Super Hybrid's Excite model will be priced at $52,990, and the Essence at $56,990. Petrol MG ZS models will have decreases of between $2000 to $3000, and MG4 models will have decreases of $2000 to $5000.

As MG continues to innovate and push the boundaries of hybrid technology, it's clear that the future is electric, and MG is leading the charge.
