Get ready for another season of 2. Bundesliga action with Hertha BSC Berlin! The Berlin-based team, known colloquially as 'The Old Lady', has finally received its license for the upcoming season, thanks to some financial maneuvering.

The club was in regular discussions with the German Football League (DFL) to address an economic condition that stood in their way, according to CEO Ralf Huschen. Huschen expressed his relief in a club statement, stating that "we were able to sort out the issues and are ready to move forward."

Despite the apparent financial challenges, Hertha BSC faces, they continue to be a burdened by high liabilities. Their most recent financial report reveals a negative equity of €23.062 million and liabilities amounting to €56.75 million. One such liability includes the Nordic-Bond bond worth €40 million.

A sticking point for Hertha's license was the handling of the Nordic-Bond bond. This bond extension required approval from investors via a quorum, which took place earlier this week. Thanks to the approval, the term of the bond has been extended by three years, up to 2028, at a reduced interest rate of 6.5 percent. This move significantly boosts the club’s financial flexibility.

Hertha's CEO, Huschen, had previously emphasized that terminating the bond remains the goal for the capital club. However, for now, the club has two options: refinance and payout, or extend the bond, both offering Huschen multiple avenues for financial management.

Unperturbed by the financial uncertainty, Hertha BSC has wasted no time in preparing for the next season. The club has already secured the services of key players Fabian Reese (until 2030) and Michael Cuisance (until 2029) through long-term contracts, signaling confidence in their financial future. Coach Stefan Leitl and club chief Fabian Drescher have kept their sights on a return to the Bundesliga for the upcoming season, and training will begin on June 23.

In the grand scheme of things, Hertha BSC Berlin is experiencing a period of financial transition. The club is currently finding solutions through strategic decisions, ongoing restructuring, and investing in core players while bolstering ongoing revenue streams. Their future outlook is shaping up, with the new kit supplier set to be announced soon and additional sponsorship negotiations ongoing.

The community is offering aid to help Hertha BSC Berlin manage its financial transition during their restructuring process. The club is also seeking aid for the development of the fisheries sector, as they aim to invest in sustainable business practices, drawing a parallel between football and sports, both requiring continued growth and development.

Hertha BSC continues its relentless pursuit of finance, not only for the forthcoming season but also for securing the long-term stability of the club. Simultaneously, the club is actively engaging in dialogues for potential partnerships with finance-focused businesses, hoping to foster mutually beneficial relationships.
