FBI Awards Leidos $130 Million Contract for Biometric Services Support

In a significant move, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has granted a five-and-a-half-year contract to Leidos, worth approximately $129.7 million, to bolster its Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Biometric Services Program.

The contract, valued at around $130 million, will provide Leidos with the mandate to offer technical and operational assistance to FBI's biometric services, a crucial component of law enforcement and the sharing of criminal justice information.

The agreement covers three main aspects:

  1. Duration: The contract spans 66 months or five and a half years.
  2. Value: Valued at $129.7 million, and typically referred to as $130 million.
  3. Scope: Leidos is tasked with the management and modernization of biometric data systems, encompassing fingerprint and other biometric identification technologies.

The key purpose of this contract is to fortify the FBI's capacity to manage, process, and disseminate biometric data with local, state, federal, and international law enforcement entities. This, in turn, is anticipated to enhance criminal investigations and public safety.

The contract underscores the increasing emphasis on biometrics as a cornerstone of the criminal justice information infrastructure in the United States. The contract administrator is the FBI's Information Access Division (IAD), and it aligns with the agency's broader endeavors to modernize technology for biometric identification and data sharing.
