Arkema Opens New Battery Lab for Cleaner Mobility
Arkema, a leading specialty chemicals company, has opened a new battery dry-coating laboratory at its Cerdato Research Center in Normandy, France. This inauguration signifies a significant step towards cleaner mobility and energy storage news solutions. The new lab focuses on advancing the dry-coating process for battery electrodes, using two key technologies: direct calendaring and electrode deposition. This enables diverse and precise electrode manufacturing, reducing energy consumption and improving the carbon footprint by eliminating solvent evaporation. Arkema's long-standing expertise in powder processing has been crucial in developing these more sustainable battery production news. The company is collaborating with major cell manufacturers and automakers to accelerate the industrial implementation of dry-coating technologies. BASF and Johnson Matthey are currently working closely with Arkema to achieve this goal. The battery dry-coating laboratory complements Arkema's global network of R&D labs for the battery industry. Anne Christmann, head of R&D at Arkema, expressed that the new lab embodies the company's spirit of innovation and commitment to supporting the global energy transition.
