Get ready to roll, 'cause it's time to nominate some Queens of the energy and mining scene! The second edition of the Women in Mining and Energy Awards (WiMEA) 2022 is officially open for business. Mark your calendars, 'cause this shindig is going down on August 26, 2022, at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra.
This event is more than just a fancy party - it's a mission to shine a spotlight on the importance of female representation and leadership in the mining and energy industries of Ghana. Led by Ianmatsun Global Services Limited, WiMEA aims to boost national recognition for these powerful women, encourage STEM education among the fairer sex, and celebrate the fabulous achievements of our miner-dynamos and energy queens.
Isaac Nana Adu-Gyamfi, the man of the hour, shared his thoughts on the upcoming awards:
He also pointed out that the awards contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, specifically goals five and ten, which focus on gender equality and reducing inequalities respectively.
WiMEA will feature two main categories: organizational/company and individual. The organizational section includes categories like Best Company in Women Empowerment Initiatives, Best Company in promoting STEM, and Outstanding Support Services Company of the Year. Individual categories are just as impressive, with titles like CEO of the Year (mining and energy), Outstanding Geo-chemical Engineer of the Year, and Exceptional Young Woman in Mining or Energy.
