Stand back, Europe, because the green hydrogen revolution is here! Andritz AG, the Austrian tech giant, has just opened its state-of-the-art electrolyzer gigafactory in Erfurt, Germany. With a hefty initial annual production capacity of around one gigawatt, that's approximately 160 to 200 cutting-edge electrolyzers per year! 💥

What does this mean, you ask? Well, picture this: our modern-day Moses, i.e., Andritz AG, is about to splits materials (water in this case) as effortlessly as the Red Sea! 🌊 These supersized electrolyzers will take in the good ol' H2O and turn it into our hydrogen buddy, H2, and a wee bit of O2 (oxygen). 🌈

First stop: Salzgitter AG

You might wonder, where on Earth these marvelous devices are heading? Worry not! Components for hydrogen production, like electrolyzer cells or stacks, have been churning out in Erfurt since March 2025. With an estimated 350 employees currently working on the site, around 100 of them are gearing up to produce the electrolyzers themselves. 🚧

Joachim Schönbeck, the Andritz AG CEO, can hardly contain his excitement: "We've got it made in Erfurt! With the existing infrastructure, we can boast over 125 years of heavy machinery expertise." 🦾

Thuringia's Minister President, Mario Voigt (CDU), couldn't agree more. The site in Erfurt has all the bells and whistles: skilled workers, a robust industrial environment, and the location of one of Germany's major production sites for electrolyzers. 🏭

The electrolyzers being crafted here are baby steps to innovation, based on the technology from Andritz AG’s partner, HydrogenPro. The initial lot is destined for Salzgitter AG’s 100 MW hydrogen plant, primed for low-CO₂ steel production. 🌟

Andritz moves and shakes the world

Andritz AG, headquartered in Vienna, has around 30,000 employees working across 80 countries, bustling about in its various sites around the globe. 🌐

Just a couple of days ago, another powerhouse hopped on the green hydrogen train - Thyssenkrupp Nucera and a Fraunhofer Institute opened a pilot plant in Thuringian Arnstadt. The project aims to put high-temperature electrolysis technology (SOEC) on an industrial scale, producing hydrogen as an energy carrier. 🚀

That's all, folks! Tune in for more updates on Europe's hydrogen conquest and Andritz AG's outstanding achievements!

In this green hydrogen revolution, Andritz AG's new electrolyzer gigafactory in Erfurt, Germany, with an initial annual capacity of one gigawatt, is expected to produce 160 to 200 state-of-the-art electrolyzers annually. This $350 million facility has an ambitious goal of transitioning various industries to renewable energy, with the first shipment of these electrolyzers going to Salzgitter AG for low-CO₂ steel production. As part of its mission to drive the hydrogen revolution, Andritz AG also collaborates with partners like HydrogenPro to bring cutting-edge technology to the table. The company's global reach expands across 80 countries, and it continues to pioneer innovative solutions for sustainable energy, demonstrated by its recent collaboration with Thyssenkrupp Nucera and the Fraunhofer Institute on industrial-scale high-temperature electrolysis technology.
