The incoming Spanish Government has expressed a strong commitment to boosting the Spanish Fashion brand, placing it among their key priorities alongside food and tourism sectors. This ambition is echoed by the Spanish Textile Council (CIE), which is spearheading an initiative to revamp the image of Spanish Fashion.

The CIE has been reaching out to major Spanish distribution chains, including Inditex, Mango, and Desigual, inviting them to join the project. These retail giants are currently evaluating the proposal, considering its benefits and the requirements for integration. The CIE plans to meet with sector entities and companies, such as the Spanish Association of Manufacturers of Children's Products (Asepri) and the Association of Fashion Designers of Spain (Acme), in the coming months to secure their approval for the new project.

A report published in 2010 highlighted that the international image of Spanish fashion is somewhat diffuse, despite its positive attributes like creativity and originality. To address this, the CIE, in collaboration with consultancy firm Interbrand, has developed a new positioning for Spanish Fashion. According to Interbrand, the new image should be synonymous with the concept of experience.

Interbrand's consultant, Maria Lara, stated that the sector has responded positively to the project. The new image, she added, will abandon the traditional combination of red and yellow colours in favour of black and yellow. Lara also emphasised that the initiative could have a significant impact on the internationalisation of the 80% of the industry that consists of small companies.

Eduardo Iniguez, head of projects at Interbrand, discussed the project with Modaes today. He revealed that the major retail chains will analyse the new project to implement the new image of Spanish fashion in 2025. Acme, which was part of the project's launch and has been involved in its development, will also be part of this analysis.

Iniguez also pointed out that the lack of prior emphasis on this brand has negatively impacted Spanish fashion. However, he remains optimistic about the future, citing the positive response from the industry and the Government's commitment to the cause.

Angel Asensio, president of the CIE, confirmed that the Spanish Fashion initiative has continuity in the new PP Government. This commitment is a promising sign for the future of Spanish fashion, as the industry prepares to step into a new era with a renewed and more powerful identity.
