Hanau, Germany – A significant infrastructure project is currently underway in the city, with the renewal of the main station bridge set to be completed in 2027. This ambitious project, one of the largest in Hanau for several decades, is a joint venture between Deutsche Bahn and the city of Hanau, each contributing half of the total cost of 56 million euros.

The original bridge, built in 1958, had to be demolished due to its inability to be renovated. The new bridge will bring modern improvements to the city's transport network.

The ongoing construction work has already led to some disruptions in train traffic. This weekend and on September 6-7, the railway line running through Hanau's main station will be closed for bridge construction work. During these periods, the S-Bahn will run regularly, and passengers are advised to check departure times using the DB Navigator app, Deutsche Bahn's online site, or posted timetables in stations before starting their journey.

On the line Frankfurt-Würzburg, the departure times of the trains of the lines RE54/55 between Frankfurt main station and Aschaffenburg main station will change on September 6 and 7. For the connection at 17:20 from Frankfurt main station, the trains may not be able to stop in Hanau-Großauheim. Buses will be used as an alternative.

On the regional train line RB 51, not all trains will run between Frankfurt main station and Hanau-Wolfgang, with partial cancellations. The trains of the RE line 5/RE line 50 will stop additionally in Hanau-Wolfgang during the construction period and will therefore take longer.

Long-distance trains on the axis Hamburg / Berlin - Frankfurt - Mannheim - South Germany - Switzerland will continue to stop in Hanau as usual, except for ICE lines Hamburg - Dortmund - Frankfurt - Nuremberg - Passau - Vienna. Passengers of these lines are advised to use regional traffic during construction phases or alternatively use the trains of the RE5/RE50.

The regional traffic on the line between Frankfurt and Bebra is also affected due to the bridge construction. For precise details on the train traffic impact related to the specific road bridge construction over Hanau's main station, such as affected lines, duration of disruptions, or rerouting plans, official announcements from Deutsche Bahn or regional transport authorities would be needed.

Despite these temporary disruptions and delays, the long-term goal is an enhanced train service. General information indicates that while some temporary disruptions and delays are likely during the construction phase, the long-term goal is an improved train service. Passengers are encouraged to stay informed and plan their journeys accordingly.
