Rolling back the clock: Bracing for a taste of the past as soldiers are welcomed by locals, reminiscent of the spring of '45

Get ready to step back in time! In preparation for the 75th commemoration of the Great Victory, the retro train L-620 "Victory Trainload" pulled into Barnaul on May 4. The Altai Territory's Transport Ministry revealed that, apart from the sweet ride on the nostalgic train itself, spectators on the platform can relish an authentic ambiance of those days. The station square will host interactive zones open from 10 am: a vintage tech exhibition, photo op spots, craft workshops, and a good ol' field kitchen. The "Victory Trainload" is set to stick around Barnaul until 2 pm.

Passersby can expect volunteers distributing replicas of the 1945 "Gudok" newspaper on the square, too.

"KP. Barnaul" chimes in to share that, between 1945 and 1955, close to 4,000 of these locomotives were churned out. They populated the railway network across the country, for which the designers were honored with the Stalin Prize.

Nowadays, these "Lebedyanki" beauties can be spotted gracing many Russian station squares and depots, like Biysk. These locomotives have even made a splash in cinematic circles, featuring in movies like "Big Transfers", "Children of Arbat", "The Twelve Chairs", you name it. Some steam locomotives have managed to hold onto their original purpose.
