Allgäu Organizations Urge Minister Schneider to Fund Rail & Road Infrastructure
Several influential organizations, including Allgäu GmbH, have written to Federal Transport Minister Schneider, expressing grave concerns about funding gaps in the region's rail and road infrastructure. The groups emphasize the national importance of these projects for the future of the Allgäu region, which boasts over 13 million overnight stays and an annual GDP of over €30 billion. A joint meeting with the Minister is expected to take place within the next few days.
The organizations highlight several urgent railway projects, including the electrification and double-track expansion of the Illertalbahn, and the modernization of further lines. They also demand immediate funds for the expansion of the B12 road, development of the Illertalbahn and other railway lines, and securing long-distance traffic connections. Additionally, they support the four-track expansion in the area of Pasing-Eichenau to reduce delays on the route to Munich.
The Allgäu region, with its thriving tourism and economic sectors, relies heavily on a high-performance transport network. The expansion of the B12 road is considered indispensable for the economic development of the region.
The organizations appeal to Minister Schneider to provide funds immediately to secure the Allgäu as a strong and attractive location. While no specific date has been announced for the upcoming meeting, planning and timing details for related dialogues and meetings are currently being developed for September and October 2025.
