Aflac Boosts Cybersecurity with Qualys' VMDR Platform

Aflac Inc., a leading insurance provider with over 50 million customers worldwide, has adopted Qualys' solutions to bolster its cybersecurity measures. In 2021, Aflac selected Qualys' Vulnerability Management, Detection, and Response (VMDR) platform to enhance its vulnerability management and also ensure compliance processes.

Aflac's journey with Qualys began with a Proof of Concept (PoC) project for the newly released Qualys VMDR 2.0 integrated with TruRisk. The project aimed to tackle four key challenges: quantifying cyber risk for different stakeholders, improving vulnerability prioritization, bridging gaps between IT and security teams, and identifying potential blind spots before attackers could exploit them.

The PoC demonstrated several benefits. Aflac gained a global risk posture dashboard, enabling it to visualize its risk landscape at a glance. It also identified previously overlooked Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs), allowing it to focus on critical vulnerabilities. The platform provided transparency for remediation, ensuring everyone was on the same page. Moreover, it facilitated automation with ServiceNow IT Service Management (ITSM), streamlining workflows and reducing manual effort.

Following the successful PoC, Aflac deployed Qualys Cloud Agent to 50,000 IT endpoints globally. This move slashed reporting tasks from weeks to minutes, providing a real-time, 24/7 view of its infrastructure. It also reduced critical and high-severity vulnerabilities by 55%. With Qualys, Aflac has positioned itself for future expansion, ensuring high scalability and robust security.
