A59 Renovation Delays: Damages Worse Than Expected, 80 km/h Limit Imposed

The renovation project on the A59 between Monheim and Langenfeld has faced delays due to more severe damages than initially thought. The section reopened on November 4, 2024, but with restrictions and an 80 km/h speed limit in place to ensure safety and prevent further damage.

The 12-kilometer-long stretch of the A59, consisting of concrete slabs from the mid-1970s, has shown numerous damages, with new ones appearing regularly. Autobahn GmbH began renovations on October 21, 2024, but the project has been extended due to the extent of the issues.

To slow down the spread of damages and enhance safety, an 80 km/h speed limit is currently in effect. Signs warn drivers of ongoing road damages between Monheim and Düsseldorf-Süd. Broken slabs are promptly replaced during brief full closures to mitigate safety risks. However, the complete renovation can only commence once construction sites on detour routes, like the A3, are completed. Current plans suggest starting the full renovation in the course of 2026.

The A59 between Monheim and Langenfeld remains open but with restrictions. The 80 km/h speed limit and ongoing repairs aim to maintain safety while the renovation project progresses. Completion is expected in the course of 2026, once detour routes are cleared.
