A stretch of the A29 near Oldenburg will be shut down this weekend, closing the road in both directions from 6 PM tonight until 5 AM on Monday morning. The closure encompasses the section between Oldenburg-Ost motorway junction and the Oldenburg-Ohmstede exit, as confirmed by a spokesperson for the Federal Highway Authority.
The deliberate weekend scheduling aims to avoid traffic congestion during rush hours, with diversions in place for motorists. The regional newspaper, Nordwest-Zeitung, first reported on the closure.
The cause of the closure is the demolition of a highway bridge carrying the A29 over the Landesstraße 886 (Holler Landstraße). After the initial renovation of the approximately 23-meter-long Oldenburg-Hafen bridge's first section, the second part will now be demolished, the spokesperson said. Consequently, the Holler Landstraße will also be closed in this area during the work.
The construction work is part of a six-year comprehensive renovation of the A29 near Oldenburg. The key project component is the renovation of the 441-meter-long Hunte bridge, located east of Oldenburg and requiring dismantling and rebuilding.
