A sibling of Herñán Bermúdez has purchased a lavish apartment in Miami.

In the heart of North Miami Beach, a luxury apartment valued at over $1.3 million in the exclusive Marina Palms Residences has become a subject of interest for local authorities and the public alike. The apartment was purchased in December 2024 by Humberto Bermúdez Requena, brother of the former Tabasco Security Secretary, Hernán Bermúdez, who is currently a fugitive wanted by Interpol.

The purchase was made through a company, MPN906 LLC, established by Humberto's wife in Florida shortly before the acquisition. Humberto is an active participant in this company, which secured a $700,000 mortgage from Bradesco bank to finance the apartment. The apartment boasts upscale amenities such as a terrace with lake views and yacht dock access.

The investigation into the purchase raises questions about the source of the funds and their connection to political networks in Tabasco. Authorities are scrutinizing the financial operations surrounding the purchase, given Humberto's ongoing investigation for financial crimes and the alleged freezing of his personal accounts.

While no explicit public evidence or formal accusations directly link Hernán Bermúdez or his brother to organized crime, the case is under investigation due to ongoing suspicions of money laundering involving the family. Some analysts are discussing the possibility of opening an investigation into the luxury apartment acquisition.

The case adds to a long list of properties abroad acquired by figures close to governors and former secretaries, sparking calls from civil society organizations for federal agencies, including the UIF, to track possible transfers, contracts, or transactions that could involve state resources.

Local legislators are expected to request detailed information from SEDENA and the UIF in the coming days regarding contracts and resources allocated to the state Security Secretariat. The public is demanding clarity about the legality of this wealth and the potential links to organized crime.

In a related development, the Mexican consul in Miami, Rutilio Escandón, is accused of being a member of "La Barredora", a network of contractors accused of allegedly triangulating public funds into accounts in the United States. The case involving the Bermúdez family and the luxury apartment purchase in Miami continues to unfold, with many questions still unanswered.
