A Display of Human Dignity Right Before My Eyes

Overlooked dignity's significance in AI research: An unexpected revelation.

A Display of Human Dignity Right Before My Eyes

In delving into the concept of dignity in the contemporary AI era, I nearly overlooked the everyday champions of this virtue within my sight.

My theory posits that our self-value could be threatened as AI surpasses us in various cognitive domains. A possible solution might involve refocusing our aspirations around the unique skills of human bonding and informed criticism. The project's forthcoming phase necessitates a comprehensive and broad exploration of literature concerning self-esteem and technology acceptance.

My dedicated student, Tanya Keyur Desai, kindly offered aid for this research. She's already demonstrated great research skills and writing prowess, as seen in her prior work. Here's a highlight of her exploration into two definitions:

A contentious House hearing concludes in disagreement after Rep. Sarah McBride was misgendered by a Republican

Assessing the Packers' free agency moves: First impressions, second thoughts, and the third degree

NYT Mini Today: Reveals, Clues, and Answers for Wednesday, March 12

Tanya has a keen interest in the dignity of women and people of color. Her essay to me discussed:

She may not be preaching from a pulpit, but I can't help but sense that she's speaking from more than a part of her personal experience. Standing at a diminutive height compared to me, with a dark skin typical of her Indian heritage, she may appear unassuming to outsiders. Her quiet, serene demeanor might lead onlookers to believe she's not sage or ambitious. This assumption would be utterly erroneous. As one of her professors, I bear witness to her intellect and achievements - a Master's degree in Marketing Analytics from Hult in San Francisco crowns a Master's degree in Neuroscience and a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry. Her ideas in class are clear, astute, and subtle. Her generous offer to help me with research was a thoughtful, selfless gesture that would propel my project.

Upon reading the following paragraph in her draft, it took me four readings for the lightbulb to flicker on. My academic research may influence the dignity of future AI users and providers down the line. However, I can act immediately to acknowledge, validate, and uphold people's dignity and that of countless peers by publishing this article. Translated, this means achieving a part of my objective right away.

Tanya Desai has already transformed our school, workspace, and community to bolster her own, her peers', and my self-determination capacity. She's potent and just as importantly, empowering. She helps me achieve my mission as an educator to improve my students' self-esteem.

To Tanya and all my Hult and Harvard students, I honor and value the vigor, smarts, and diligence you pour into your education to amplify your impact and change the world. From my vantage point, you've already started fulfilling this aspiration. And I'm fortunate to observe—and if I'm lucky—contribute to, this growth of dignity.

P.S. Tanya, I'll need more time, reading, discourse, and contemplation before we proceed to the next stage. Apologies for the delay.
