2,600 Inspectors Target Germany's Hotels and Restaurants for Minimum Wage Compliance

Today, over 2,600 employees of the Financial Control of Illegal Work are conducting random inspections in Germany's hotel and express industry. The focus is on ensuring compliance with the new general minimum wage of 12.82 euros per hour, effective since January 1, 2025. This sector is a key target due to its size and employment intensity.

Customs officers are checking various aspects, including adherence to legal minimum wage, proper recording of working hours, fulfillment of social security obligations, and prevention of improper receipt of social benefits. They are also verifying that employers ensure their staff carry and present ID documents, and that there's no illegal employment of foreigners.

The nationwide results of today's targeted inspection will be announced next week. Sarah Garbers has been appointed as the contact person for further information regarding these controls in the hotel and restaurant sector.

The inspections aim to protect workers' rights and ensure fair competition in the industry. Employers are reminded to comply with all legal requirements to avoid potential penalties. Further details will be available next week.
